Relaxed horseback adventure: Experience Sardinia Bay on horseback with Heavenly Stables

Looking for an exciting family activity this winter? Enjoy a leisurely outride with Heavenly Stables along the scenic coast of Sardinia Bay, just outside Port Elizabeth, and gain a new perspective of the magnificent natural areas surrounding this suburb.

The good news is also that Heavenly Stables caters for all levels of riders – from novice to experienced, thanks to their well-trained horses and ponies. Hence, you do not have an excuse not to experience Sardinia Bay on horseback.

Your adventure starts with a relaxed approximated two and a half hour horse ride, through the Sardinia Bay Nature Reserve where bushbuck, duiker, grysbok, vervet monkeys and a large variety of birdlife and other smaller animals are regularly sighted. A beach ride, which must be arranged in advance, will take you to scenic Indian Ocean beaches and rugged sand bluffs that stretch to what seems like eternity.

I must say, I was pretty confident going on the adventure as, I had learnt to ride at the age of six. Still, Jackie, the owner of Heavenly Stables, tempted me with the opportunity to test my skills along the way.

The way Heavenly Stables structures their safaris is based around ensuring and promoting safety. All rides are intended to be laid-back and enjoyed by all riders, in saying this for the more experienced riders faster rides can be arranged on request. The pace of your adventure will be monitored by your experienced trail guide and by your riding capabilities. Our guide also taught us all the finer details of a long-distance horseback trek!

We later broke for refreshments and called it a day.

Heavenly Stables also offers day camps for children where they can enjoy horse riding and learn how to groom horses, amongst other things. Their safe and fun pony riding school will ensure your tots learn the basics of riding and good horsemanship. The ponies can also be hired, together with a handler, for your kids’ parties, functions and celebrations.

If you are planning to own a horse and wanting to get a feel of it without committing a large amount of money, Heavenly Stables does have a horse/pony leasing facility and their stables are also for hire.

Those who would like to stay over, Heavenly Stables has a self-catering accommodation which can sleep up to 7 guests on the farm.
