Renault goes for the winner’s prize with new Megane RS 275 Trophy

Although spy shots of its replacement have been doing the rounds online, Renault South Africa has announced pricing and spec details of what is likely to be the final iteration of the current Megane range.

Following on from the launch of the RS 265 Trophy earlier this year, the French firm has added an additional 10 horsepower, its trademark Cup sport chassis with a Limited Slip Diff and subtle changes to create the RS 275 Trophy, its most powerful model available locally.

Externally, Renault has kept the newcomer almost identical to its less powerful sibling with the biggest additions being a slightly redesigned grille sporting the RS badge below the Renault logo, new front and rear bumper with the later incorporating a F1-style diffuser, silver front bumper blade sporting LED daytime running lights, special 19-inch black Trophy alloy wheels, red Brembo brake callipers, a unique Akropovic carbon exhaust, and Trophy striping down the rear quarter panel and badging on the front doors.

Inside, the changes are similarly subtle with the addition of RS branded aluminium door sills and drilled pedals, carbon fibre dashboard inserts, a RS branded aluminium gearlever, leather and Alcantara trimmed Recaro sport seats with red stitching, and a track data logging feature for the standard TomTom Live infotainment system.

In addition to this, the system also features a full 3D race telemetry function while the fitment of Renault’s Dynamic Management mode, allows for the choosing of three traction control settings; Normal, Sport and Race.

As its name suggests, power from the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine now stands at 275 horsepower, which translates to 201 kW with torque remaining unchanged at 360 N.m. A six-speed manual gearbox is the only transmission option offered with Renault claiming a 0-100 km/h time of 6.0 sec and a limited top speed of 250 km/h. Combined fuel consumption is rated at 7.5 L/100 km and emission at 174 g/km.

A five year / 150 000 km warranty and five year / 90 000 km service plan is included in the R449 900 asking price.
