Residents steal pigs after truck crashes on N2 Highway killing driver

Kei Bridge police, near Butterworth, says they are investigating how a truck carrying hundreds of pigs crashed on the N2 on Wednesday morning and instantly killed the driver. The pigs are believed to have been stolen by residents from the nearby community.

"It is alleged that the truck was from Durban to Komga was carrying 400-600 pigs to be delivered to Komga butcheries," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"The truck left the road along the Kei Cuttings, without colliding with another vehicle.

"It crashed in the bushes along the N2 road between Butterworth and Kei Bridge."

Captain Manatha said that the 51-year-old driver of the truck died instantly.

"The cause of the accident is not known but under investigation by Kei Bridge Police.

"Community members looted and stole all the pigs," he, however, added.

"The identity of the deceased is still being withheld until his family and close relatives are informed of his death.

"Police condemn the actions of the community to loot the pigs a specially as the driver of the truck had passed away."
