Review: Lexus NX 200T EX - experience amazing!

The Lexus brand is not a well-known in South Africa. However, throughout Europe, North America and Asia, Lexus is one of the top selling premium brands of choice.

In 1983, Toyota made the decision to build a brand of luxury vehicles that would surpass the likes of Mercedes, BMW and Audi. Their objective was to build the best luxury motor car in the world and in 1989 they launched the Lexus LS.

Of course, not everyone would agree that Lexus is the top premium brand but there is no denying that Lexus make superb vehicles.

A few months ago, I was informed that Algoa Toyota Newton Park and Diaz Road were moving to their new state of the art showroom on Circular Drive, which will now include the luxurios Lexus Brand under one roof.

In preparation for this opening, Algoa Toyota have already received a number of these amazing vehicles into stock and I was fortunate enough to be able to get behind the wheel for the day of the New Lexus NX 200T EX.

The NX 200 is beautiful, but in such an understated manner. Think of a Chanel dress or a stealth fighter plane – perfectly functional lines that captivate your eyes and leave your subconscious smiling.

The interior is... Well, I was going to say snug, but it is more than a comfortable fit, it is ergonomically amazing. Once I had perfectly positioned my seat for my body size, I found that every single soft touch button, knob and touch pad was in reach of my hands without me having to shift my body.

Every technological feature that you would expect from a 2017 vehicle is on board along with some that are simply amazing such as a wireless cell phone charger, smart entry and a remote touch pad interface.

Interestingly, the clock is analogue giving this vehicle that touch of class and there is a detachable hand mirror that is hidden in the centre console.  I found this mix of the latest technology and old school practicality awesome.

The drive is incredibly smooth and with the 2.0 Turbo engine producing 175 kW of power, it is quitter than a whisper. Put your foot down, however, and it lets go a lovely growl and leaps off the tarmac like a lion with a twitching tail.

Every conceivable driving aid is built into the NX 200T EX. All the regular safety and comfort features one would expect to be standard are clearly there, with the likes of ABS, EBD etc. as well as having artificial intelligence shift control, hill start assist control and vehicle stability control. These features not only make the Lexus extremely safe but also very easy to drive.

Driving on the freeway, I felt on top of the world. I felt like I was dressed in a bespoke tuxedo that could turn into Iron Man’s armour at the press of the pedal.

Experience Amazing - test drive a Lexus at Algoa Toyota in Cape Road, Newton Park, Port Elizabeth, until the opening of their new premises, just before Christmas, on the corner of Willow Road and Circular Drive, also in Port Elizabeth.
