SACP Eastern Cape mourns passing of veteran Bonisile Philemon Norushe

The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Eastern Cape on Friday said that it received with sadness the news of passing of struggle veteran, and the African National Congress (ANC) Veteran's League Deputy President, Bonisile Philemon Norushe.

"As the SACP, we wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to his family, the ANC led movement in general and the ANC Veterans’ League in particular," said Siyabonga Mdodi, SACP Eastern Cape Provincial Spokesperson.

"Comrade Norushe, shall always be remembered for his fearless contribution in the struggle for the liberation of African Majority in South Africa.

"We salute his generation for having fought for the freedom we are reaping fruits of today.

"It is through the efforts by the courageous generations of liberation forces that we are today living in a democratic South Africa."

SACP Eastern Cape calls for historical account of liberation struggle

Mdodi said that, in the memory of Norushe and many heroes and heroines of the liberation struggle, the ANC working with its allies and the whole of South Africa’s liberation movement, as well as the government, should document a detailed historical account of the contribution and sacrifices made by each one of our veterans to the course of freedom.

"This is extremely important for both young people and our future generations," he added.

"An accurate account of where our society comes from is crucial to our national vision for a non-racial, non-sexist, democratic and prosperous South Africa based on social emancipation.

"We believe that there can be no better tribute to his life than to take our revolution to greater heights of a more radical economic transformation for the benefit of the majority."

Mdodi said that for this to happen, "we must insist on quality leadership guided by revolutionary morality, as he once said, 'no revolution can be led by non-revolutionaries'. We owe it to him to build a strong COSATU as under the leadership of SACTU they pioneered the founding of the federation."
