Addo - The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Chule 'KK' Papiyane District - the Sarah Baartman Region, has learnt with deep shock and sadness, of the passing of its District Executive Committee Member Thulani Grootboom.

"Comrade Thulz, as he was affectionately known, passed on at an East London hospital in the early hours of this morning after a short illness," said Bongani Hanise, SACP District Spokesperson.

"The comrade is a product of the revolutionary movement’s preparatory schools, having served in the lower structures of the YCLSA during its re-establishment period and later as a member of the African National Congress (ANC) Youth League's Regional Executive Committee."

Grootboom was once an ANC Councillor in the Sundays River Valley Local Municipality

Hanise said that Grootboom served as a PR Councillor of the ANC at the Sundays River Valley Local Municipality from 2011 until 2016.

"True to his selfless nature, he continued to serve his community even after this deployment and when he was unemployed. At the time of his death, he was the Chairperson of the School Governing Body at A.V. Bukani Primary School in Addo," he added.

"He was also the Deputy Branch Secretary of Ward 6 in the Sundays River Valley Sub Region, Sarah Baartman."

The SACP said that the party in the District "dips its revolutionary flag in honour of this genuine and exemplary cadre of our movement".

"We send our sincere condolences to his family, friends and comrades in the revolutionary alliance."

Details of memorial and funeral services will be sent announced in due course, after consultation with the family.
