SACP to lead march for housing and service delivery in Buffalo City Municipality

The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Buffalo City Region says it will lead "a people’s march" in the Buffalo City Municipality's Ward 13 on Thursday.

According to Ludwe Mnweba, the SACP's District Spokesperson, the march has been organised by the SACP Mtyanti Msauli branch.

"The march is organised to raise many issues relating to housing and service delivery," he described.

"The party will deliver a memorandum of demands to Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality (BCMM), Eastern Cape Department of Education, Eastern Cape Department of Health and the South African Police Services."

Mnweba said that the SACP is, amongst other issues, calling for:

  • An end to manipulation of housing beneficiary lists by councillors and BCMM officials.
  • An end to illegal eviction of rightful beneficiaries of houses by BCMM officials.
  • An end to selling of RDP houses by BCMM officials collaborating with some councillors.
  • Rectification of the poorly built RDP houses.
  • Building of schools, clinics and sports grounds.
  • Transportation of school children.
  • Construction of access roads and establishment of cooperatives to maintain the roads.

Details of the march:

  • Date: Thursday, 23 March 2017
  • Time: 12h00
  • Venue: New Life Site Office to Chicken Farm Sports Ground.
