Saturday sermon with Rev Diane Ledwick: I saw also the Lord, that’s how Big God is - Part 4

...What’s happening in your life, who do you see, do you see also the Lord? God my miseries are great, my problems are enormous, my pain is unbearable, my sorrow is insurmountable but I see also the Lord. When everything goes wrong, the whole world lets you down and everyone fails you, will you say with faith and conviction,

‘In the year that king Uzziah died, I saw also the Lord?’

When God is big He is easy to see. We have to make Him big in our lives. How big is He to you? He can only ever be as big as we allow Him to be. A very old Pentecostal chorus that we used to sing in church when I was small, and Christmas trees were tall, goes like this:

How big is God, how big and wide His vast domain
To begin to tell, these lips can only start
He’s big enough to rule this mighty universe
Yet small enough to reign within my heart

Make no mistake, God is big. His word expresses just how big He is.

Isaiah 66v1
‘Thus saith the Lord, the heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool...’ (KJV)

Isaiah 40v10,12
‘Behold the Lord....who hath measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?’ (KJV)

Psalm 95v3-5
‘For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the deep places of the earth, the strength of the hills is His also. The sea is His, and He made it, and His hands formed the dry land’ (KJV)

Psalm 8v3
‘When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained’ (KJV)

Genesis 1v1
‘In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth’ (KJV)

I have given you five scriptures that attest to how big God is, there are still hundreds more. Look around you, He is everywhere, it should be easy for us to make Him big. He is omnipotent, all powerful, He is omniscient, all knowing and He is omnipresent, He is all around us all the time.

How can we not see Him? There is nothing small about God. His heart is big, His thoughts are big, His nature and personality are big, His grace is big for He is big. He is so big that no-one can stand...
