The Grey 1st XI had a double header over the weekend, winning both matches by big margins against Queens College and Graeme College.

"They played Queens College on Froday and Satuirday ion a time cricket match. Queens won the toss and asked Grey to bat on Friday after the heavy rain was a tough challenge for the Grey batsman against a positive Queens attack, but the Grey batsmen were equal to it," said Wendy Beaufort, Marketing Director at Grey High School.

"After getting through a difficult first hour Tristan Du Randt top scored with 53, Luke Beaufort scored a solid 46 and Matthew Biggs smashed 49 on his 18th birthday! Leaving Grey 224 for 8."

She said that Grey then bowled in very good areas as the opposition had no answer to the Grey pace attack. LJ Du Preez the destroyer in chief with a superb maiden five wicket haul for the 1st XI.

"His figures 5 for 9 and Queens all out for 27. A Grey win by 197 runs."

Grey then played Graeme College in a 50 over match on the Saturday. Grey were again sent into bat first and got best use of a fresh pitch and although the Graeme bowlers made it hard work for Grey were still able to compile a good total.

"Tristan Stubbs top scored with a patient 59, LJ Du Preez and Nick Fowler also batted well both scoring 41, the score finishing on 259 for 8," Beaufort said.

"After lunch Grey came out strong, bowling well from the start, and although wickets didn’t flow at first, Grey eventually got into the opposition middle order. Connor De Lange then mesmerised the middle and late order with his leg spin, taking 5 for 11 to bowl Graeme out for just 81. Grey won by 178 runs."
