Scores arrested in police operations in Mdantsane

In their endeavours to tackle crime Mdantsane cluster police arrested 40 suspects over the weekend.

"OCC members were patrolling around NU2, when they busted a 36-year-old suspect for possession of unlicensed firearm," described police spokesperson, Captain Nkosikho Mzuku.

"They continued with their patrols and arrested another suspect, 45-years-old for possession of unlicensed firearm in NU5."

He said that swift reaction by the police led to arrest of a 29-year-old suspect for business robbery, minutes after robbery at a well-known clothing at Highway shopping centre on Saturday.

"These suspects were arrested for various crimes ranging from assault with the intent to cause grevious bodily harm, intimidation, house breaking and theft, robbery other, assault common, business robbery, possession of unlicensed firearm, possession of dagga, fraud, attempted theft of cable to mention but a few."

All the suspects are due to appear in the Mdantsane, East London Magistrate's Courts soon for various crimes.
