Search continues for drowned Marubeni Primary School learners

Eastern Cape MEC for Education, Mlungisi Mvoko, together with  Eastern Cape Department of Education officials, expressed their sadness following reports of the drowning of two Grade 7 learners from Marubeni Primary School on Tuesday.

"The tragedy of the drowning happened while they were on the school's outing to the Second Beach in Port St Johns," said Eastern Cape Department of Education Spokesperson, Mali Mtima.

"The bodies of the two learners have not been found as yet by police divers. 

"The other two learners have been referred to the Mthatha Hospital."

Details still sketchy about how Marubeni Primary School learners drowned

He said that the district director and some officials visited the homes of the drowned learners.

"The department will be sending investigators to the school on Wednesday," Mtima added.

"Information at this stage is extremely sketchy. After the investigation has been concluded, the department will be in a better position to provide more information."

he said that the department's Superintendent General, Themba Kojana and MEC Mlungisi Mvoko send the department's condolences to the families of the deceased.
