Port Elizabeth -A Port Elizabeth man is expected in court on Monday after he was busted by an off-duty police officer over the weekend for robbery at a local battery centre.

"A police officer is never off-duty and is always ready to come to the aid and assistance of the community when needed," described police spokesperson, Col Priscilla Naidu.

"On Saturday evening , at about 23:00, a member of the Port Elizabeth Flying Squad was off duty when he received a call for assistance from the manager of battery company informing him that suspects are stealing car batteries at  their premises in Standford Road in Korsten, Port Elizabeth."

She said that the member immediately responded in his private car and Const Ludi Retief  spotted the suspected bakkie leaving the premises and chased after it in his car while requesting for back up from his colleagues.
