The acting Uitenhage Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll, has applauded the team of dedicated detectives of SAPS Addo for arresting seven suspects - two females and five males, in the early hours of Thursday morning.

They were arrested in connection with the burglary at a guesthouse in Selborne over the past weekend.

"It is alleged that the suspects gained entry to one of the rooms of a guesthouse, during the night on Saturday, whilst the Pretoria complainant was attending a wedding at another venue," said police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart.

"The suspects fled with electronical equipment worth more than R150 000."

She said that stolen equipment included cameras, laptops, etc.

The case was reported on Sunday in Addo.

Addo police detectives made breakthrough leading to arrest of suspects

"Detectives received valuable information early on Thursday morning and a team of detectives were set up and the breakthrough was made at about 06:00, when the team searched the residential homes of the suspects in the Addo area," Capt Swart said.

"Various electronical items belonging to the Pretoria complainant was recovered during the searches."

The seven suspects are due to appear in the Kirkwood Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges ranging from housebreaking and theft and possession of suspected stolen goods.

Brigadier Koll said: “The dedication and tireless hours of our investigators in ensuring the successful and speedy arrests of perpetrators paid off and the culprits were behind bars soon after allegedly committing the offence.

“The safety of our community, which include visitors from neighbouring provinces and tourists remains one of our priorities, and we will endeavour to ensure their safety at all costs, however we need the assistance of the community to continue to work with the SAPS."
