Seven years in jail for Butterworth man, who raped an elderly woman

Butterworth - The Butterworth Regional Magistrate’s Court that sat at Centane Magistrate’s Court on Monday convicted and sentenced a 38-year-old man, Xolisile Nkuzwana, to undergo seven years imprisonment for raping an elderly woman.

"It is alleged that the accused person went to the homestead of the victim on the 25th December 2016, at about 01:00, at Thafalofefe Locality, Zingcuka Village, Centane," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"The victim, aged 76 years old, was alone and the electricity was off. The accused accosted the defenceless woman and raped her.

"When she screamed, she was threatened with a knife.

"While the accused was still busy raping the victim, the electricity came back. It was at that stage that the victim identified the accused."

He said that a case of rape was opened at Centane Police Station and the accused was traced and arrested.
