Seven years in jail for Uitenhage 20-year-old man who raped 44-year-old woman

Police in the Uitenhage Cluster welcomed the sentence that was handed down to a 20-year-old rape accused on Thursday by the Uitenhage Regional Court.

"The accused, Rafferty Rodwill was sentenced to an effective seven years imprisonment for raping a 44-year-old woman on 2 July 2017," described police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart.

" The victim and the accused, who offered to walk her home, took a footpath next to Tarpon Crescent, Kamesh, towards her residence at 00:05 on 2 July 2017. 

"The accused forced himself on the victim and raped her."

Rafferty Rodwill arrested for bthe crime

The victim reported the incident to the South African Police Service in Uitenhage and the accused was arrested on 5 July 2017 on a charge of rape. 

Acting Uitenhage Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll, applauded the detectives from the Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in Uitenhage, as well as the Uitenhage Regional Court for the good work performed and the sentencing that was handed down.
