"The response reveals that three cases from the 2016/2017 financial year are still ongoing. These officials are still on suspension and the disciplinary hearings were scheduled for June and July this year," said Edmund van Vuuren - DA Eastern Cape Shadow MEC for Education.

"Since 2015, the Department of Education has paid a total of R3,4 million to these nine officials while their investigations are underway.

"The money paid to these officials could have gone towards providing much needed services within schools in the Eastern Cape."

He said that he will be submitting further parliamentary questions to find out exactly why it has taken so long to conclude disciplinary action in these cases.
