Alice - The University of Fort Hare on Wednesday announced the launch of a new scholarship which prioritises first-year South African, full-time Law and Accounting students at the university.

According to University of Fort Hare Spokesperson, Tandi Mapukata, the scholarship, which is named after its benefactor, proud UFH alumnus and self-made property mogul, Dr Sisa Ngebulana, the 2020 SISA NGEBULANA Undergraduate Scholarship For Law and Accounting will benefit unfunded students who are pursuing degrees in the fields of law and accounting for the first time in 2020.

"The five scholarships will be awarded to academically deserving 1st-year students with excellent matric results."

Mapukata said that Dr Ngebulana’s association with the University of Fort Hare’s Alumni Office dates back many years.

"He has donated generously to several causes and fundraising initiatives.

"In addition to the five scholarships, his most recent contribution is an amount of R200 000 - donated via the Sisa Ngebulana Foundation, as part of a fundraising initiative that was set up with 35 other highly esteemed UFH alumni," he described.

"This is the biggest single contributor by an alumnus of the University of Fort Hare. The proceeds of the fundraising initiative were used to clear the debt of 78 students who graduated recently, on 29 May 2020."
