Six men arrested for illegal firearm possession in early morning raids

Six men, including a teenager, are expected to appear in court on Thursday after they were arrested by police in Dutywa and Willowvale for illegal firearm possession.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, in the first incident, the SAPS Tactical Response Team in Queenstown assisted by the Public Order Policing arrested three men, aged 19, 27 and 46, at Silityiwa Locality, Bholothwa Village, in Dutywa, on Wednesday morning at about 02:00.

"The suspects were found with unlicensed firearms - namely pistols with twenty seven round of ammunition," he described.

Captain Manatha said that the same units arrested another three men, aged 30, 28 and 56, afterwards.

"The suspects were arrested at Dwesa Village, Willowvale, this morning at about 06:00.

"They were found with unlicensed rifles and shotguns with three rounds of ammunition," he said.

"All the suspects will appear before the Dutywa  and Willowvale Magistrate's Courts on Thursday on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition."
