Joint efforts between Crime Intelligence, Stock Theft, National Intervention Unit and Madeira members to eradicate the scourge of stock theft in the Mthatha yielded positive results when police officers arrested six men, aged between 24 and 65 years old, at Matyenenqina Locality in Bityi on Thursday afternoon.

According to the police, at about 13:00, the members were following up on information about a Toyota Hilux that was seen loading cattle at Mandela in Mthatha in the morning.

“The leads came with positive results when three cattle, cattle skins and horns, an amount of R22 540 cash, a Toyota Hilux that was used for transporting the cattle and a VW Golf that was used for escorting, were confiscated,” said police spokesperson, Captain Dineo Koena.

She added that the Acting Cluster Commander Brigadier, Nomawethu Makonza, applauded the members for the good job.

“We must remove all those that are terrorising our communities by stealing their stock. They should face the full might of the law,” said Brigadier Makoza

The suspects appeared before Mthatha Magistrate’s Court on Friday facing charges of stock theft.
