Skeletal remains found in Malabar confirmed to be of missing child

Port Elizabeth - The skeletal remains of a child found on 29 September, at approximately 09:00, in Malabar Ext 6, in Port Elizabeth, has been confirmed through DNA to be that of Recolin Keagan Witbooi, who went missing on 6 July 2019 from Gelvandale.

"It is alleged that Recolin Keagan Witbooi was last seen at 13:30 on the mentioned date, playing with friends in Uranus Street," said police spokesperson, Col Priscilla Naidu.

"He did not go back home. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a black hoodie top, black track suit pants and a pair of white Nike takkies."

Col Naidu said that due to the state of decomposition, the identification of the child could not be determined and DNA analysis was done to confirm the identity.

"Post mortem result indicate ‘unascertained due to advance state of decomposition.’

"An inquest is under investigation," she said.

"At this stage, the case will remain an inquest unless further information is forthcoming .

"Police are appealing to anyone who can assist in the investigation to contact D/Sgt Edman Mandeka at SAPS Gelvandale on 078 370 9785 or 041 402 2018 or Crime Stop 08600 10111 or their nearest police station."
