Slow down the skin-ageing process

Slow down the skin-ageing process

The two main factors that affect the skin’s ageing process are genetics and environmental influences. There’s not much we can do about the natural ageing processes we’re born with, but we can make changes in our lifestyle habits that can help keep our skin looking young and healthy.

1. Prepare your skin for the outdoors

Today’s environment can be quite harsh for your skin so it’s best to protect the skin from environmental factors such as UV rays and pollution, which starts the ageing process and skin damage. Mirjana Brle?i?, founder of natural skincare range Nikel Cosmetics is an acclaimed scientist has done extensive research in developing an all-natural skincare range that helps the skin feel rejuvenated and balanced.

Nikel’s Alpine Rose Stem Cell Tonic was created from Alpine Roses, which are typical Swiss flowers that grow at altitudes of 1500 – 3000m. It is in these distinct environments that they have to adapt to extreme conditions such as the cold, UV and dryness. The Alpine Rose helps to maintain the characteristics of skin stem cells and to protect these precious cells against UV-stress. “By extracting stem cells from the Alpine Rose, we are able to harness these benefits for our own skin,” says Brle?i?.

Nikel’s Alpine Rose Stem Cell Tonic is extremely versatile and can be used in a number of ways. You can apply under your make-up or sunscreen as well as during the day to refresh your skin.

2. All-Natural is best

Sticking to beauty products that are all-natural is best for your skin. “I spent many years selling premium skincare products, and realised that many of my customers were having skin issues from these products and that’s why I decided to create Nikel Cosmetics,” says Brle?i?.

Using all-natural plant activated ingredients will balance your PH level in your skin and help alleviate skin ailments such as redness and pigmentation.

3. Cleanse and moisturise your skin the right way

Facial skin is extremely delicate and it needs to be treated accordingly. Scrubbing your face or using harsh chemicals can be very damaging to the top layers of the skin. Even rinsing your face with water can be harmful, as water can contain minerals that strip the skin of its natural oils and affect its pH balance.

“Always use a gentle cleanser, like our cleansing milk with Immortelle,” says Brle?i?. “It removes make-up and impurities while nourishing the skin with specially chosen plant extracts, and it’s rinse free.”

The top layer of the skin, the epidermis, acts as a barrier that protects the body from ultraviolet radiation, harmful chemicals, and pathogens such as bacteria and viruses. It also plays an integral role in producing new skin cells. We can help it fulfil this vital function by ensuring it stays hydrated. Drink plenty of water, and “Use a good moisturiser to help restore the epidermis, stimulate collagen and elastin production,” says Brle?i?

4. Eat a healthy, balanced diet

Cutting out highly processed foods that are high in refined sugars, like soft drinks, bread, processed meats and even some so-called “healthy” cereals like muesli, can have a big positive impact on the skin. These kinds of foods cause insulin levels to spike, which can cause inflammation, and the long-term effects on the skin is loss of elasticity and sagging.

Include in your diet foods rich in anti-oxidants – blueberries, strawberries, beans and green tea are great examples. Antioxidants protect the skin by limiting the production of free radicals that can damage skin cells, and help reduce the signs of ageing.

Brle?i? believes what you put into your body should also be good for your skin. The Nikel 12 plants elixir contains plenty of anti-oxidants from plant derived vitamin E, Olive oil, Passion flower oil and Immortelle oil.

5. Get enough sleep

Lack of sleep causes stress to the body and this can compromise the integrity of the collagen in your skin. When sleeping at night that is when your skin is working overtime to repair and rejuvenate.

To prepare your skin for nighttime regeneration Brle?i? suggests that you apply their Nikelhidris face cream, winner of the Elle beauty awards 2018, with a few drops of their 12 plant Elixir. This combination is the perfect way to harness the most out of your beauty sleep and wake–up looking refreshed and youthful.
