Smart Housing Needs Register launched in Uitenhage

A secured and transparent housing waiting list at the palm of your hands

Port Elizabeth - Government's subsidy housing waiting list will soon be in the hands of local residents - National Human Settlements Minister, Nomaindiya Mfeketho, told hundreds of Uitenhage residents at the launch of the Smart Housing Needs Register  -  simply, government's housing waiting list, on Friday.

Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality residents will from now on be able to check on their housing application through their smart phones. This will be done through an App that can be downloaded on any android smart phone.

The system has been made in such a way that an applicant will know how far their application is, whether all application documents have been submitted and also if their applications have been accepted or rejected.

The Smart Housing Needs Register will save residents time and money on transport expenses to municipal offices. The system will also guarantee transparency and fairness. The municipality will embark on an awareness programme to introduce the system across the City.

'Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality deliverying on promise to improve services'

This system comes at an opportune time when the City is in a process of unrolling Wi-Fi connectivity in the previously disadvantaged areas, with Motherwell as a pilot.

Minister Mfeketho said that she was impressed with this new development as this App has many benefits to the community. "I am pleased that this system has been designed in such a way that it cannot be manipulated".

Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Executive Mayor, Mongameli Bobani, said: "As a coalition government, we promised to improve services, to bring them at your doorstep, this is one of many that are coming your way.

"We will not be derailed in making sure that your dignity is restored. We know that some might be asking about DATA when we introduce this system. This administration has already started with the Wi-Fi programme that we will be launching next week," said Executive Mayor Bobani.
