Some follow up rains expected over Eastern Cape this Sunday

Port Elizabeth -  In the latest weather forecast for the Eastern Cape, the Port Elizabeth office of the South African Weather Service said on Wednesday that there is some rain, strong winds and snow expected this weekend.

"There is a bit of temporary relief for the drought stricken areas of the Eastern Cape for the weekend," said Garth Sampson, the SA Weather Service's Client Liaison Officer for the Eastern Cape.

"Although far ahead, Sunday will see a 60% chance of rain over the Western Half of the Eastern Cape (west of Port Alfred)

"This will include the interior and the drought stricken areas of Adelaide and Bedford."

Sampson said that falls of greater than 20mm are expected over the southern coastal areas and the adjacent interior.

"This will include the Langkloof catchment area," he added.

"Rainfall over the Eastern parts of the province will be less significant.

"Some much needed thunderstorms are expected over the northern parts of the province, which will include Graaf Reinett."

Sampson said that strong winds are also expected over these northern parts of the Eastern Cape.

"Snow is expected over the Drakensburg," he described.

"The long term forecast till December does not look promising, so use water sparingly."
