Some nice falls recorded in Nelson Mandela Bay's catchment areas

Finally, some good rains fell in the catchment area of Nelson Mandela Bays main storage dams in the past 24 hours, the South African Weather Services' Port Elizabeth office said on Friday morning.

This is some good news for the region that is facing a water crisis that has seen the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality and the Kouga Local Municipality imposing water restrictions at the end of 2016.

 According to Garth Sampson, the SA Weather Services Client Liaison Officer for the Eastern Cape, Joubertina received 13 mm of rain; Patensie recorded 15 mm; while Kareedouw  received 5 mm and Kouga 28 mm.

"The heavy falls in Despatch passed between our gauges at Springs Resort and Chatty Dip," added Sampson.

"It was a VERY SMALL cell (according to radar) and basically moved over Despatch. 

"Still a chance of some light rain in places over next few days, but no heavy falls expected."
