Southern Kings flanker reeled back into SA ‘A’ squad

Southern Kings flanker reeled back into SA ‘A’ squad

After Southern Kings flanker and specialist pilfer, Chris Cloete, was handed a suspension in their clash against the Lions following successive yellow cards in the Super Rugby tournament, the 26-year-old has now been drafted back into the South African ‘A’ fold.

This comes after Sharks’ loose-forward, Jean-Luc du Preez, was called up into the Springbok squad to replace injured Duane Vermeulen to face France in a three-match incoming Test Series in June.

Vermeulen suffered a shoulder injury in Toulon’s French Top 14 Final against Clermont on Sunday night, and Cloete has since been reeled in to bolster the loose-forward back-ups in the SA ‘A’ mix.

Still serving his suspension, Cloete will still miss the first SA ‘A’ clash against the French Barbarians next week, but will be available for selection in their second in the two-match Series.

In other SA ‘A’ call-ups, Sharks wing Lwazi Mvovo and SA Sevens specialist and Stormers wing Seabelo Senatla, have been pulled into the squad in place of Jamba Ulengo (injured) and Lionel Mapoe (called up into Springbok squad).

Cloete will join the SA ‘A’ squad when they assemble in Durban on Wednesday.
