Standard Bank IRONMAN 70.3 Durban is set to be a thriller

It’s just a matter of days until the fourth edition of the Standard Bank IRONMAN 70.3 Durban. The sunny seaside city will again be playing host to one of the most popular triathlon sporting events in the country.

Being one of the ‘Seven Wonder Cities’ of the world, Durban offers athletes the chance to race along the pristine Golden Mile.

The Standard Bank IRONMAN 70.3 Durban is on track and event organisers are currently working around the clock to ensure that this event exceeds all expectations.

On Sunday 03 June 2018, SUNCOAST will be taken over by world class triathletes and thousands of fans and supporters, all eager to soak up as much action as possible.

Although only in its fourth year, the Standard Bank IRONMAN 70.3 Durban, is already proving to be a race that triathletes from across the globe are incredibly excited about. The warm, subtropical climate and flat run course contribute to making this race a favourite.

This unforgettable race in the heart of the paradise city begins with a swim at uShaka Beach, followed by a fast, undulating bike course that loops around the Blue Lagoon and heads along the M4 highway. The flat, two-loop run course along the promenade is sure to provide some fast times along with some spectacular views.

All excitement will be centred around the 150 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship slots that are available. 50 of these 150 slots are just for women, while the 100 remaining slots are for all age groupers (both men and women). The additional 50 slots came as part of the Women For Tri™ initiative.

Women For Tri, an IRONMAN Foundation program launched by IRONMAN in 2015, works to welcome and empower new female triathletes to be part of the sport’s continued exponential growth.

“This is a great way for us to acknowledge the growing presence of women in triathlon. Our South African woman are full of drive and passion for the sport. Those extra slots will be all taken in a blink of an eye. It’s been great to see the drastic rise of women in our events.” said Keith Bowler, IRONMAN South Africa Managing Director.

And of course, an IRONMAN event can only be complete with the immense support of the IRONFANS. The support and encouragement that fans and supporters give, is vital to the overall success of the race.

The atmosphere that builds throughout Race Day comes to an electric end, as the very last athlete is welcomed onto the coveted IRONMAN red carpet, which marks the cut off of the race. Be sure to show your support and be a true IRONFAN by getting down to the Finish Line, seeing athletes cross the Finish Line is something no one should miss!
