Ster-Kinekor closing cinemas at Greenacres as focus shifts to premium experiences

Ster-Kinekor says its cinema complex at The Bridge shopping centre in Port Elizabeth will close this week. The final day of trading at this site is Sunday, 26 March.

Says Wanda Matandela, CEO of Ster-Kinekor Theatres: “The digital cinemas, impactful surround sound, 3D projection and the self-service ticketing and catering terminals all contribute to a magical time at the movies. Since the mall’s opening almost two years ago, we have noticed an audience shift to this site to enjoy all the latest blockbusters released on the big screen.

”It is thus with regret that we announce the closure of our cinemas at The Bridge. While our loyal patrons have supported the cinemas here over the years, we hope they will continue watching movies in the best possible way – on the big screen – at Baywest Mall. We are currently focusing our business efforts and resources on optimising our sites. This, as we continue to grow our premium cinema offering, to ensure our audiences always enjoy a ‘great moment’ when they watch a film at one of our cinemas,” says Matandela.

The business decision to close The Bridge cinemas follows an extensive review of all the sites’ overall performance over the past months. As South Africa’s leading cinema chain, Ster-Kinekor continues to focus its efforts on providing a superior cinema experience for its audiences across the country.

“Cinema is a growing business for us in South Africa, and our circuit continues to deliver great attendances. With a number of big blockbuster titles set to release this year, and film genres to suit all tastes showing at our 480 large-scale screens daily, we are focused on delivering a cinema experience to enthral, delight and entertain our audiences,” states Matandela.
