Student engineer has high hopes

Student Engineer Zolile Mzobe hasn’t looked back since starting work on the Msikaba North Haul road project.

He was unemployed after finishing his civil engineering studies at the Walter Sisulu University in Eastern Cape.

“I wish to have my own construction company after gaining a lot of experience,” said Zolile.

But one day he saw the Msikaba site office being assembled and he decided to try his luck. He dropped his CV and not long afterwards, he was employed by Grinaker which later seconded him to Krweba Trading.

Hopeful about the future

“I am now the supervisor and Krweba is a subcontractor. My duties are to monitor and make sure that all the work is done in accordance to specification. If at all there is anything that is needed, I’m the one who must inform Mncedisi, the owner of the construction company,” said Zolile.

This is his first real work experience and Zolile agrees he has already learnt a lot in the short space of time he has been there.

“I started working on this project in March 2017. This project has helped me immensely already and I wish I could continue working on it. In future I wish to continue until I graduate, do my BTECH and carry on doing my honors in civil engineering.
