Stutterheim violence: Protesters arrested by Stutterheim police for starting a fire

Three protesters are expected in court on Thursday after they were arrested by Stutterheim police for Public Violence on Tuesday.

"It is alleged that these three suspects, aged between 27 and 37, were in town and started a fire at Hill Street, Stutterheim," described police spokesperson, Captain Siphokazi Mawisa.

"Police confiscated three tyres that were allegedly to be used in protest activities."

These suspects will appear at Stutterheim Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

Stutterheim police have also arrested several suspects since protests began

The ongoing often violent service delivery protests began in October.

To date, public property and several trucks have been destroyed by the protesters.

Police have also arrested several protesters for public violence since the beginning of the month.

On Monday, protesters were also accused of threatening local business owners and forcing them to close their shops.
