Suspect arrested after trio robs 61-year-old Walmer woman at her home

Swift reaction by SAPS Walmer members resulted in the arrest of a 36-year-old alleged robbery suspect and one other ‘person of interest’.

"It is alleged that on Wednesday, at about 08:20, the 61-year-old complainant was at her home/business in Union Road when she heard noises in her yard," described police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu.

"As she opened the front door, three unknown males pushed her into the house.

"They were armed with a firearm, a crowbar and an unknown weapon. The woman was tied up and some of the safes in the house and office were opened."

Col Naidu said that two firearms and cash was taken.

"The domestic worker was also tied up and shoved in the bedroom with the complainant. When the suspects left, they managed to free themselves and alert police and the security company," she added.

"Two cell phones were also taken.

"It is further alleged that the suspects fled in an Audi A4. As soon as the vehicle was circulated, Walmer police spotted it in Walmer location and the driver was pulled over."

He was arrested for house robbery and his female companion was taken in by police for questioning.

"Police are still looking for the other two suspects as well as the stolen firearms and property."

The suspect will appear in court soon.
