Suspect caught by residents after armed gang robs house in KwaNobuhle

Uitenhage residents apprehended one of five house robbery suspects following a robbery incident at a house in KwaNobuhle on Wednesday night.

"On Wednesday, at about 21:30, it is alleged that five men, one armed with a firearm and others with knives with the last armed with a pepper spray entered a house through an unlocked door in Mgwari Street, KwaNobuhle," described police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkohli.

"The six house occupants were held at gunpoint, and forced to lie on the floor.

"During the incident two occupants were sprayed with a pepper spray."

He said that the suspects demanded cellphones and cash and made off with five cellphones and undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the scene on foot.

"The victims immediately summoned the neighbours for assistance and residents also joined in the chase," Capt Nkohli said.

"One of the suspects was arrested."

The 35-year-old man is now due to appear at KwaNobuhle Magistrate's Court on charges of house robbery on Friday.
