Drugs worth thousands taken off Port Elizabeth streets during police raids

Port Elizabeth - A joint intelligence led operation by Port Elizabeth police resulted in the arrest of three suspects and the confiscation of drugs and medicated tablets worth thousands of rands.

"The operation was conducted between 22:00 on Thursday night and 05:00 on Friday morning," said police spokesperson, Col Priscilla Naidu.

"Members from the National Intervention Unit, the Port Elizabeth Flying Squad and the Port Elizabeth K9 Unit executed several search warrants at suspected drug lords' houses in Gelvandale and Bethelsdorp areas with special focus on firearms and drugs."

She said that at a house in Phyllis Street in Shauderville, Port Elizabeth, a 21-year-old male suspect was arrested for possession of dagga and illegal possession of medicated tablets in terms of the Medicines Control Act.

"A total of 7 619 stilpain tablets, 35 x100ml cough syrup, 900 Purata tablets, small amount of dagga and cash was seized," Col Naidu said.

"The estimated value of the drugs is R15 000."

Port Elizabeth police arrested two more suspects on drug charges

She said that at 02:00, on Friday morning, a 30-year-old man and another 42-year-old, were arrested at houses in Kalota street, Ext21 in Bloemendal and Kronenberg Street in Bethelsdorp, Port Elizabeth, respectively.

"A total of 28 rolls of dagga, two scales and 350g of loose dagga was confiscated. The estimated value is R5 000."

Col Naidu said that the arrested suspects will appear in court soon.
