Suspects busted following early morning hijacking in Bethelsdorp
Two alleged hijacking suspects, aged 20 and 21 years old, were arrested soon after a hijacking took place during the early hours of Sunday morning.
"It is alleged that at about 03:00, the complainant, was driving his VW Polo in Bethelsdorp, Port Elizabeth, and as he was at the corners of St Jude and Loonat Streets in Ext 27, he felt something against his face," described police spokesperson, Col Priscilla Naidu.
"A firearm was shoved in his face through the open window. The suspects robbed him of his cellphone, gold ring and cash.
"They then drove off in his vehicle."
Col Naidu said that the vehicle's description was circulated and at about 05:00 members of the Visible Gang Intervention Team spotted the vehicle in Standford Road heading towards Algoa Park.
"The vehicle was followed and with the assistance of SAPS Algoa Park, it was stopped in Dyke Road in Algoa Park," she added.
"The two suspects were arrested. Complainant’s wallet was recovered.
"They are detained on a charge of vehicle hijacking and will appear in court on Tuesday."
