Swift reaction by police leads to recovery of stolen vehicle in Alexandria

A man is expected in court soon after he was arrested at about 17:45 on Wednesday after the SAPS reacted to information about a stolen vehicle that was travelling towards Alexandria.

According to police spokesperson, Capt Mali Govender, police immediately teamed up with the local security companies and patrolled the R72 whilst another team set up a road block just out side Alexandria.

"Approximately half an hour later, the vehicle was stopped with four occupants. As the vehicle was being sought as s stolen vehicle, the driver was arrested whilst the other three occupants were taken for questioning to the local police station," she described.

"During a search of the vehicle several 9mm rounds of ammunition and a magazine was was found.

"The 27-year-old male faces charges of possession of stolen vehicle and illegal possession of ammunition."

SAPS Cluster commander for Port Alfred, Brigadier Morgan Govender, commended the team and said "The display of comradeship was clearly reflected today on how you operationalised the information you received which led to this success. Congratulations and continue to nuture this relationship."
