The holidays are here and it’s time to relax!  The Eastern Cape and Garden Route are world renowned as a holiday destination with such international landmarks as Jbay for surfing, Addo Elephant National Park for game viewing, Knysna for scenery and the Tsitsikamma area for adventure sports.

Living in the Eastern Cape means that you do not have to travel far to experience a world class holiday, but the question is always, “where do I stay”.  Home Food and Travel has sought to assist you with an answer and so in this edition we spoke to the owners and managers of some great places to stay to find out what they have to offer.


Danielle Green, the Manager at Knysna Luxury Accommodation says; “It’s not just accommodation that we offer  it’s a way of life, and life in Knysna is fantastic.”


The owners of Jeffrey’s Bay Beach House, Wernich and Lurina Cronje,  say; “At our BnB we welcome our guests to their home away from home and provide a relaxed and serene atmosphere with a spectacular view. With the beach practically being our backyard guests can expect to see dolphins and whales playing in waves.”


Lucille Came, the owner of Pig & Whistle Inn in Bathurst, says; “The Inn was built in 1832 and boasts the oldest licenced pub in the country. We have a family business with a personal touch. We’re centrally based and close to the beach and nature.”

We are also pet- and granny-friendly,” say Mark and Jacques, the owners of the Karroo Theatrical Hotel in Stytlerville.


Quintin Collins, the Manager at Knysna Herons Guest House says “Our motto is ‘IT’S NOT HOW MANY VISIT US, IT’S HOW MANY RETURN.’ We meet as strangers and our guest leave as friends.”

Candice Chemaly, the Marketing Manager at the Haga Haga Hotel says; ”Family owned for over 40 years, we have a hands on approach. All our rooms are sea-facing and we provide both hotel and serviced self-catering. ”
