Teenager expected in court for gang-related murder and attempted murder

An 18-year-old suspected gangster is expected in court on Monday after he was arrested shortly after a fatal shooting took place in Arcadia, Bethelsdorp, in Port Elizabeth, over the weekend.

According to police information, at about 17:45, a 17-year-old victim and two others were shot at near a Cash and Carry Supermarket in Rensburg Street Arcadia.

"The 17-year-old victim was in the company of a group of males when the shooting occurred," said Port Elizabeth police.

"He sustained several gunshot wounds and succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

"Two other persons, aged 22 and 23 years old, also sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to hospital for medical treatment."

Shortly after the incident, the Provincial Gang Investigation Unit arrested a teenager at his house in Jenniker Street.

"He is detained on a charge of murder and two attempted murder charges.

"He is expected to appear in court on Monday, 30 January 2017. The incident is gang related," police said.
