The Crazy Duck makes a difference on Mandela day

On Thursday, 18 July, The Crazy Store celebrated Mandela Day with a donation handover of R126 000 to The Friends of the Children's Hospital Association (FOCHA) at the Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital in Cape Town.

The amount was raised over the past year through the Crazy Duck initiative, whereby 10% of the sales on selected collectable Crazy Ducks purchased by customers nationwide, went to the cause. The Crazy Duck has been around as the mascot of the local retail chain for four years, bringing smiles and cheer to consumers.

“Our partnership with FOCHA started in 2014, when we placed specially branded Collection Tins (which is still on-going) in all our stores. This was the start of our journey to help make a difference in the lives of the little patients, who are facing big challenges on a daily basis at the hospital”, said Sian Reck, Marketing Manager of The Crazy Store.

Sian added that the special Collectable Ducks range was launched in 2015, to help spread the message and encourage customers to be part of this fantastic and growing fundraising initiative.

“The Crazy Store is very involved in not only raising funds for FOCHA, but also by donating soft toys for the children and facilitating the donation of TV’s in the wards for educational and fun viewing.  FOCHA is also The Crazy Store’s first choice when it comes to their Santa’s Shoebox Project and staff members have embraced the cause by getting involved and bringing joy to all the little patients.”

“The Crazy Store have been and is still supporting The Friends of the Children’s Hospital Association with hundreds of thousands of Rands, equipment and toys for a number of years and we are excited to have them on board as one of our main sponsors and partners.”, Said Eddie White, Programmes Manager at FOCHA.

FOCHA is a voluntary support group to the Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital that seeks to provide amenities, assistance and care to the patients and families of the hospital.

You can help make a difference and support this initiative by purchasing one of the ducks at any of the 305 store nationwide.
