The Russel Hotel should be on your to-do list for 2016!

If you are also looking to throw away any post-Christmas blues and ease your way into that long list of 2016 resolutions, then taking a mini-break this month is a great idea – and I have just the perfect destination for you.

Knysna, nicely fixed in the heart of the beautiful Garden Route, is the perfect location from which to explore everything this world famous region has on offer.

I recently set off for this town with a friend in search of a fun-filled weekend and chose to stay at The Russel Hotel, a 3-Star establishment centrally located on the corner of Long and Graham Streets. The bottom end of Long Street leads to the famous Thesen Island and the town’s waterfront, while the N2 highway is just one block away. Whichever tourist attraction or restaurants you plan to visit, you’ll find it easy to access them from The Russel Hotel.

Although we arrived late on the Friday evening, the receptionist was very helpful and friendly. She showed us to our room and ensured we were secure in their off-street parking.

The Russel Hotel offers 18 spacious rooms all with marbled, en-suites bathrooms in a single, double, twin and family room configuration which suites all manner of travellers.

Our beds were beautifully made, with crisp white linen and aquamarine cushions and throws. Being ladies, we had a large amount of luggage and we were delighted to see that there was more than enough cupboard space in our suite! The room also had TV with select DSTV channels, air-conditioning/heating and, thankfully, a coffee/tea station, which we put to immediate use to ward off the cold.  We were also provided with extra warm blankets for the chilly winter night.

We slept deeply and, thanks to the comfort of the beds, spent time lying in bed chatting and planning our day. By the time we entered the dining room, we were famished. Thankfully what awaited us was a delicious homemade breakfast – just the perfect start to a day of exploring. We started with orange juice and coffee, cereal, fruit and yoghurt, and then dived into our large portion of French toast with bacon and honey.

The Russel Hotel was a perfect base from which to enjoy our memorable weekend. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Knysna for business or for pleasure. With friendly staff, excellent service and comfortable rooms, you can’t go wrong!
