Third year of Colchester Development Run promises excitement
Organisers of the third edition of the Colchester Development Run, taking place tomorrow morning, reckons that competition will be fierce and loads of fun will be had.
Michael Mbambani, Sponsorship Liaison Officer of Eastern Province Athletics, said: “Ultimately local communities are encouraged to participate in races like these. However, we expect palpable excitement at the starting line for both the 5km Family Run and the 10 km run as prize money, lucky draws are up for grabs.
“We are proud of the history and growth of the Colchester run over the past years and believe that, although the annual Cape Town marathon that is taking place on Sunday does attract a number of PE athletes, and even in the absence of our marathon team, the event will still be competitive and well supported,” Mbambani said.
The first prize winners for the 10 km men and women are walking away with R2 000, R1 500 for the second prize and R1 000 for the third athlete across the finish line. The first junior walks away with R500, the second R300 and the third finisher with R200.
T-shirts will be given to the first 200 entrants.
The 10km race for men and women starts at 07:00 under the Mackay Bridge Angling Club in Colchester and the 5km fun run half an hour later.
