Thornhill woman gunned down in her home by unknown man, who pretended to sell cement
Detectives from the South African Police Service in Thornhill are baffled as to the motive for the fatal shooting of a 36-year-old woman on Wednesday night, in Thornhill.
"It is alleged that the 36-year-old woman was at her home in Tekana Street, Phase 2, Thornhill, when she heard a knock on the door at about 22:35," said police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart.
"An unknown male approached her on the pretence to sell cement.
"The woman informed the man that she was not interested, she closed the door and the unknown male walked away."
It is further alleged that the same unknown male returned a few minutes later and knocked on the door again.

"When the 36-year-old woman opened the door for the second time, the suspect fired a shot fatally wounding the 36-year-old woman in the head," Swart said.
"The motive for the murder is unknown at this stage. Detectives are following up on all possible leads.
"The name of the victim will be released after her next-of-kin was informed and she was formally identified."
She said that police are appealing to the community to assist them in their investigation.
