Three alleged drug dealers arrested in Kwazakele during police raids

Three suspects were arrested on Thursday night during a police raid on suspected drug dealers in the Kwazakele area of Port Elizabeth.

"This followed after information was followed up by Kwazakele Crime Prevention Unit members," said spokesperson, Captain Andre Beetge.

"The first arrest of a 48-year-old male took place after the suspect was found in possession of nine bompies dagga and four mandrax tablets after searching his house in Makuphula Street, Zwide, at about 20:50."

He was charged with possession of dagga and mandrax.

"The second arrest of a 36-year-old male took place after the suspect's house was search in Ngwekazi Street, Zwide, at 21:00.

"He was found in possession of 15 small packets of tik, 52 bompies of dagga and 52 mandrax tablets," Captain Beetge said.

"He was charged with dealing in dagga mandrax and tik."

The third arrest was of a 36-year-old male, which took place after his house was searched in Mkuli Street, Kwazakele, at 22:50.

"He was found in possession of six mandrax tablets and a bag of loose dagga," Capt Beetge added.

"He was charged with dealing in dagga and mandrax."

All three suspects will appear before the New Brighton Magiatrate's Court on Monday to face their respective charges.

The Kwazakele Station Commander, Brigadier Lindelwa Vellem, applauded the arrests and said "drugs not only ruin the lives of the users, but also play a role in the committing of other crimes. Therefore SAPS needs to take these drugs and their traders off the streets."
