Three alleged East London drug dealers appear in court

Three alleged drug dealers, suspected to be members of huge drug-dealing syndicate operating in the Eastern Cape, appeared in the East London Magistrate's Court on Monday where their case was postponed to March. This is after they were arrested by the Hawks in East London on Friday.

"The suspects, a 26-year-old Laurence Benjamin, Zavian Plaatjies (30), and Elroy Van Schalkwyk (33) have appeared before the East London Magistrate’s Court on Monday and were released on R5 000 bail each," said police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Robert Netshiunda.

"The trio were arrested as a result of a multi-disciplinary operation involving the Hawks, Buffalo Flats police and the East London Crime Intelligence.

"During the arrest the suspects were found in possession of 474 mandrax tablets and 2grams tik worth the value of R16 824."

The case was postponed to 28 March 2017 for further investigation.
