Three men busted by Qachasnek police travelling with 2m python and crocodile
A driver and his passengers are expected in court after they were arrested at a roadblock by Qachasnek police for the illegal possession of an almost two-meter long python and a crocodile on Friday morning.
"Qachasnek police were doing routine patrols as part of #SafetyFridays at Khoapha junction, but a recovery of a 1.9m long African Boa snake and a Nile crocodile was the least expected," described police spokesperson, Captain Khaya Tonjeni.
"This happened while members were busy with during a vehicle stop-and-search which began early on Friday, at 05:00, to ensure safety of the public and their property on the roads."
He added that a 39-year-old male driver of the sedan vehicle and two male passengers, aged between 27 and 39, were arrested in connection with illegal possession of reptiles.
"The suspects are believed to have been travelling from Limpopo."
Capt Tonjeni said that the suspects were charged with unlawful possession of endangered species and are expected to appear in Maluti Magistrate Court on Monday.
Man also arrested by Qhachasnek police over suspected stolen car
In a separate incident, Qhachasnek police arrested a 37-year-old man for possession of a suspected stolen vehicle.
"The vehicle’s number plate did not match with the disk registration of the vehicle. The suspects was charged for possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle," said Capt Tonjeni.
"Seven Vispol members and seven traffic officers under the Command of Mount Fletcher station commander Lt Col Mthethunzima Sontube searched and motor vehicles, which led to the success."
The suspect expected to appear at Maluti Magistrate's Court on Monday facing a charge of possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle.
