Three nabbed for possession of illegal firearms and ammunition in Dutywa

East London - The East London Public Order Policing Unit and the Butterworth Crime Intelligence unit on Tuesday arrested three men, aged between 29 and 60 years old, for possession of unlicensed fire arms and ammunition.

"A 29-year-old man was arrested at Madaka Locality, Nyhwarha Village, Dutywa," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"He was found with 36 live rounds of ammunition. The suspect had no license to possess the ammunition."

Capt Manatha said that another 29-year-old man was arrested at Lencane Locality, Ngcingwana Village, Dutywa.

"He was found with an unlicensed firearm namely a pistol with five live rounds of ammunition. The suspect had no licenses for both the firearm and ammunition."

A 60-year-old man was also arrested at Ngwenyama Locality, Nyhwarha Village, Dutywa.

According to Capt Manatha, he was found with a 7.65 pistol that had three rounds of live ammunition.

"The suspects will will appear the Dutywa Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday."

Acting Butterworth SAPS Cluster Commander, Colonel Ncedo Ngwendze, praised both units for a well done job.

"By removing illegal firearms and ammunition from the suspects, crimes such armed robberies and murders were prevented," said Col Ngwendze.
