Three sisters die after being struck by lightning in Dutywa

Police in Dutywa have opened an inquest docket after three sisters, aged 7, 10 and 18 years old, were fatally struck by lightning on Thursday, at about 19:00, at Mantshilibeni Location, Vonqo Village, Dutywa.

"All of them passed away at the scene. It is alleged that the deceased were in a rondavel hut when lightning struck them," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"The parents of the children were not at home when the unfortunate incident happened.

"The grandmother of the children was in a separate house. She was not struck by the lighting."

Captain Manatha said that the identities of the deceased will be withheld until all their family members are informed of their death.
