TNPA Moots New Port for Manganese Exports

Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has mooted the possibility of developing a new deep-water harbour at Boegoebaai, north of Port Nolloth.

Engineering News reports that TNPA chief executive Tau Morwe told a briefing in Cape Town that the proposed Northern Cape port “could be developed into a new minerals export channel for commodities such as zinc, manganese and coal”.

Currently, Transnet is involved in upgrading the rail link between Hotazel in the North Cape and the Port of Ngqura and construction of a dedicated manganese export terminal at the port.

The stated aim is to increase manganese exports to 16 million tons a year through Ngqura.

Speaking at the same briefing, GM commercial and marketing Lauriette Sesoko said among the tenders currently being prepared was one for a proposed liquid bulk terminal at East London.  - MetroMinutes
