Toy gun robbers arrested after crashing into wall fleeing from PE police

Port Elizabeth - Quick response from the SAPS' Algoa Park members responded in the speedy arrest of three suspects allegedly involved in a business robbery, which occurred on Tuesday morning.

"It is alleged that on Tuesday, at about 09:50, four unknown males entered a shop in Commercial Road in Sidwell and held the owner (28) at gunpoint," said police spokesperson, Capt Johan Rheeder.

"The suspects took cigarettes, a laptop, cash and two cell phones.

"The total estimated value of the items taken is R21 700."

Capt Rheeder said that the suspects fled in a pink Toyota Tazz.

"SAPS Algoa Park members spotted the car as the suspects were speeding towards Zwide," he said.

"A chase ensued and the car crashed into a boundary wall at the corners of Kattoo and Mkhuze Streets in Zwide.

"One suspect managed to flee while three other suspects (in their 30”s) were arrested.

"One cell phone, some cash, the laptop and the cigarettes were recovered. A toy gun was also found."

Capt Rheeder said that the suspects are detained on a case of possession of suspected stolen property and detectives are busy attempting to link them to the robbery.

"They are expected to appear in court soon. Investigations are ongoing."
