Toy gun robbers run out of luck after robbing Maclear cellphone shop

Maclear police on Sunday morning swiftly arrested of three suspects following an armed robbery at a local cellphone shop.

"The three suspects entered the PEP Cell shop and held up two employees," said police spokesperson, Capt Ursula Roelofse.

"They then started to collect various cellphones in the shop."

She said that the SAPS members received the information of the robbery in progress and immediately responded.

"The swift reaction made it possible that three suspects, aged 26, 22 and 24, were arrested."

Capt Roelofse said that the suspects are believed to have come from Mthatha.

Robbery suspects used a toy gun and a hijacked vehicle

"A toy fire-arm as well as the vehicle a VW Vivo red in colour that was used were confiscated and the cellphones recovered," she said.

"On further investigation, it was also determined that the vehicle was hijacked at Ngangelizwe also during January."

Maclear SAPS Cluster Commander, Col Matshediso Gezani, commended the members on the swift reaction and the recovery of the stolen items.

He added; "Maclear SAPS will not tolerate this conduct and will not be shy to take action against any wrongdoers to ensure that our people always feel safe and secure!"
