The SAPS' Operation Back to Basics Safer Festive Season netted three suspects, aged between 27 and 35 years of age, in possession of suspected stolen cellphones and cash at a roadblock held on the N2 highway near Wilsonia, East London.

"On searching their vehicle, police found 177 new cellphones; cash of about R12 000.00; angle grinder; crowbar; sledgehammer and cutting pliers," described police spokesperson, Capt Mluleki Mbi.

"Initial investigations revealed that these items are linked to a burglary at a store in Graaff-Reinet recently."

Capt Mbi said that the trio will appear before the East London Magistrates’ Court on Thursday facing charges of possession of suspected stolen property as well as possession of house breaking implements.
