Trio expected in court after stabbing and robbing Uitenhage homeowner

Uitenhage - Three suspects are expected in court this week after they were arrested by Uitenhage police following a brazen house robbery on Sunday morning.

"Concerted efforts by members of the South African Police Service to effectively address trio crimes in the Uitenhage Cluster paid off on Sunday morning, when alert Uitenhage K9 members spotted the silver Toyota Corolla that was allegedly taken in a house robbery earlier in the morning and apprehended three male suspects in Gunguluza, Kwanobuhle," described police spokesperson,  Captain Gerda Swart. 

"It is alleged that the couple was asleep at their residence in Brand van Zyl Street, Uitenhage, when they were awoken at 03:20 by three intruders, who demanded cash and a firearm."

She said that the suspects were armed with knives and ransacked the home in search of the items.

"The husband got upset and argued with the suspects. One of the suspects stabbed the complainant in his stomach and shoulder," Capt Swart said.

"The suspects then demanded the keys of their vehicle and drove away with their silver Toyota Corolla, cellphones and laptop.

"The complainant alerted Uitenhage police and he was taken for medical treatment."

Alert Uitenhage K9 Unit members spotted the stolen vehicle and managed to apprehend three suspects

Uitenhage 10111 Centre members circulated the details of the stolen vehicle and alert Uitenhage K9 members spotted the vehicle, with three occupants, driving in Nqathana Street, Gunguluza (Kwanobuhle) at 05:05.

"K9 Unit members immediately pulled the vehicle off the road and arrested the three males and recovered all the stolen property," said Capt Swart.

"The three suspects (aged between 21 - 30) are due to appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate's Court in the course of this week on a charge of house robbery."

Acting Uitenhage Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll, commended the members from the Uitenhage K9 for their swift response and vigilance in ensuring that they bring those, who break the law, to face the consequences.
